Doing everything 'right' but still gaining weight? Here are the clever tricks to help

There's little more frustrating in life than carefully watching what you eat and getting your steps in, only to feel your waistband becoming tighter. But it's not just what you're eating that can make your clothes feel a bit snug. Everything from your hormones to the speed you're wolfing down lunch may impact your weight. The good news? Once you figure out the cause, a few adjustments can stop those unwanted pounds from piling on.

IT'S YOUR EATING SPEED

Always the first to clear your plate? Then you might still feel hungry*. 'Chewing can be linked to feeling full and if you are eating quickly, you are chewing less,' says nutrition expert Penny Weston. 'This can lead to you eating more than you need.' On average, women gain 5-7lb during menopause, when hormones affect various things, including how we lay down fat. 'Sleep disruption may also increase metabolic disturbances, and low energy levels from poor sleep can cause people to reach for comfort foods,' says nutritionist Hannah Braye. Speak to your GP, as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may help, as can boosting gut microbiomes. 'Evidence suggests live bacteria supplements can support a healthy metabolism and weight management,' adds Hannah.
