For these young people, the sky is the limit

A demonstration in her PE lesson four years ago changed Lillian Collinson’s life.

At primary school a team from Speed Stacks Australia showed Lillian’s class their skills, involving stacking plastic cups in a specific order at incredible speed.

“It was crazy to see,” Lillian, now 12, from South Australia tells Woman’s Day. “I liked the speed and thought it looked fun.”

Speed stacking is actually part of the school curriculum in areas of the US and Asia and, with proven benefits to cognitive function, concentration and coordination, it’s something the Australian team are also pushing in this country.

“I'd never found my sport before but speed stacking gave me lots of confidence,” Lillian says. “I started practising a lot and some of my friends joined the sessions they were running after school with me. I’ve started boxing and basketball now too and the hand-eye coordination I’ve learned stacking has really helped.”

Over the years Lillian also encouraged her family to get involved and within months she was breaking records.
