Twelve years after successfully beating breast cancer, Martina Navratilova has just announced that it has returned, and she’s also now been diagnosed with early-stage throat cancer.
“This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favourable outcome,’ the tennis superstar said in a statement last week. It’s going to stink for a while but I will fight this] with all Ihave got.” The worrying news means the 66-year-old won’t be travelling from her US home to work as a commentator for the Australian Open, which begins on January 16. However, Martina says she hopes to occasionally appear via video link during the two-week competition.
