The cost-of-living crisis doesn’t have to derail your good habits with our money-saving supermarket tricks

- JENNY ROWE.

Shop healthily FOR LESS

Often feel that even the most basic elements of a balanced diet, such as Greek yogurt or lean mince, are more like luxuries these days? You’re not alone. A recent report found that UK food prices have risen, on average, around 6% in the past year, with some staples, such as margarine and vegetable fats, rocketing by 35%*.

However, while superfoods and healthy alternatives are sometimes the more expensive choice, if you know how, budgeting can be health-boosting too. Whether it’s stocking up on dried beans or overlooking marketing lingo, here’s how to find the real deals – those that are kind to both your waistline and wallet.

Think ahead

Plan out all your meals – including snacks – for the week ahead. One study revealed that individuals planning their meals were found to have a healthier, more varied diet and lower levels of obesity**. Then, organise your list in categories according to the layout of your local supermarket. This will reduce the time you spend lost and inadvertently browsing – and sometimes buying – things you don’t need.

ASK US ANYTHING

I'm single, and for ages I've had difficulty around sex with new partners. At first, I was just uncomfortable with penetration, but now it's painful, and I sometimes bleed. My best friend has been really great, encouraging me to relax and try different positions. But none of that's helping, and now she's saying I should see a doctor. But do I really need to? I'd rather sort this out for myself.
