Why go?

England's first capital, Winchester, is a well-preserved gem, its narrow lanes and alleys packed with historic treats, from pretty medieval palaces to a world-famous cathedral. Yet it's far from being stuck in the past; it boasts a lively centre that's teeming with an array of cool galleries, shops and restaurants.

Base yourself just outside of the city for a slower pace of life. Just 15 minutes away from Winchester, the small village of Avington lies next to the Avington Estate's grandeur. Boasting a Grade I-listed country house that was once the home of one of Charles II's courtiers (now privately owned), as well as acres of gorgeous countryside galore, its gorgeous parkland and tranquil lakes are sure to soothe your soul.
