Also undertaking a top-secret, high-security visit to another war-torn country was Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. She made her second visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo to highlight the “weaponisation of rape” and recognise the work being done to support those who survive horrific war-related sexual violence.

Sophie, 60, who has visited numerous countries where women and girls have suffered terrible attacks during conflicts, said it was an honour to return to the African nation, which she last visited in 2022, but she wished “it was in happier times”.
