Interior designer Dani Dazey shares her blueprint for creating a bold, joyful abode that's full of your favourite things

Express yourself!

Life is colourful. I believe your home should be too. I've spent the past eight years creating spaces that make people happy — rooms bursting with colour, pattern and soul. I want to show you how to do the same because I believe it will enhance every aspect of your life!

MY COLOUR THEORY

THE WORLD IS GETTING LESS COLOURFUL

When the Science Museum Group analysed photos of everyday objects, they determined that our possessions were becoming less and less colourful over time, and the story went viral - and kept going viral for years as new people shared it. This study confirmed what most of us have already observed: Our world is losing saturation, charm and uniqueness as design becomes more homogenised. I believe the study got so much buzz because deep down, we know colour is important. I say we should fight back against this trend. Let's stop living in boring black and white! We all grew up loving colours, so why are we so afraid of them now? Creating colourful spaces has brought me so much joy and is the ultimate form of self-expression. Here's what I know about designing with colour:

THERE ARE NO BAD COLOURS

I believe that there are no unlovable hues and no colour is "ugly". Seriously, there are no bad colours! Every colour can sing somewhere and almost any combination of hues can work if you fine-tune the ratios, shades and tints.

USE HUES THAT MAKE YOU SMILE

A good colour scheme starts with a particular shade you love. Take that one hue and build from there, experimenting until it feels right to you. Use your intuition. You might be surprised with where the process takes you.

TREAT THE COLOUR WHEEL LIKE A COMPASS
