CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2025

Celebrating the worldwide love for films and everything representing visual arts, Cannes organised its 78th Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, featuring veteran artists and fresh talents from around the globe.

This 12-day festival, from May 13th to May 24th, previewed a total of 22 films in various genres, some of which received remarkable recognition among the jury panel and the audience. From political and family dramas to thrillers, comedies and documentaries, all found their place in the list. Marking exciting news for the Indian film lovers, filmmaker Payal Kapadia, who received the Grand Prix award for her 'All We Imagine As Light' at Cannes 2024, returned to the festival as a jury member of the international panel led by Juliette Binoche.

Continuing last year's legacy, India left its mark on the film festival this year too with its official entry 'Homebound' under the Un Certain Regard section. The Neeraj Ghaywan direction and co-production by Dharma Production garnered the attention of the audience and panel members, receiving a 9-minute standing ovation. Though it did not win in its category, its emotional reception and prominent backing marked it as one of India's most notable international launches this year. Featuring performances by Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor, the film wove a compelling narrative about familial ties and migration, resonating deeply with global audiences. Capturing Indian cinema's rich legacy, a 4K restoration of Satyajit Ray's 'Aranyer Din Ratri' was also screened as a part of the Cannes Classics section.
