Are the LinkBuds fit for purpose?

Sony LinkBuds Fit

There's a lot in a name. The sharp-minded among you may have realised that a pair of earbuds with the word 'fit' in the title are serving up a rather droll double meaning. Discounting the likelihood that the term can be interpreted as referring to physical attractiveness, the word in this instance pertains to the 'fit' of the earbuds in your ears and - get this - pursuits that involve physical fitness.

So, these are wireless earbuds designed to give you a comfortable and secure experience as you go about your daily life and, when the time comes for you to don your best workout gear, help you achieve your fitness aspirations.

Sitting solidly in the crowded mid-range price realm occupied by the new Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (tested at £180) and the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (£179), these Sonys are also facing off against some decent sport-centric competition, not least the admirable Beats Fit Pro (at around £190).

Get hooked

One key feature of these LinkBuds is their in-ear hooks. Similar to the pointy protrusions found on the Fit Pro, they are there to provide security and stability during demanding workouts and the like. Sony describes these hooks as "soft and hollow tails" and they are indeed softer and more pliable than the plastic points offered by the Beats.

Luxman E-07

Ask us to talk about some of our favourite high-end phono stages of all time, and it wouldn't be long before Luxman's excellent valve-based EQ-500 is mentioned. What Hi-Fi? tested this immaculately engineered unit back in 2017, and it made such an impression that we used it in our reference system for a while.
