Google's latest 'basic' Pixel offers a sharper display, smarter Al and better cameras – all wrapped up in a flagship that's surprisingly easy on the wallet
Who needs a 'professional' phone anyway? The Pixel 10 is out to prove you don't have to go Pro to get a mobile to be proud of.
And on paper at least, it does appear that Google has nailed the essentials, with enough extras to make the standard model of its latest phone feel special - including a design that's every bit as swanky as the Pro models (see p34), with satin-finish edges, a glossy glass back and slimmer bezels. The signature camera bar, meanwhile, keeps things wobble-free when it's sitting on a desk.
The 6.3in OLED display is rated for 3000 nits of peak brightness - plenty for easy outdoor readability. Add 120Hz scrolling and HDR punch, and it's a screen that has the specs to rival the very best. Stereo speakers add a bit of muscle for video binges or late-night Spotify sessions.
Performance promises to be solid too, powered by a Tensor G5 and 12GB of RAM. Google's latest AI smarts - from Magic Cue to Auto Best Take - offer some useful bonus features, while faster wired charging plus the magnetic Pixelsnap wireless option should make topping up fuss-free.
But maybe it's the cameras that will ultimately seal the deal. A new 5x telephoto joins the wide and ultrawide, giving this handset more versatility than any previous Pixel. It all sounds very... well, Pro.
