The first Metroid Prime game revolutionised not just a series rooted in 2D side-scrolling, but FPS games in general. The series' Switch 2 debut now brings open-world elements for the first time, while otherwise sticking very closely to the established formula.

Navigating strange planets, scanning the local flora and fauna, showing enemies the fiery end of your arm-cannon and regaining signature abilities that grant further exploration all feel instantly familiar. Each distinct biome oozes atmosphere, soundtracked by spacey electronica to great effect.
