Foldable LED displays are flipping the script on how we see, move, and use screens -blending brilliance with portability. The future of visual tech isn't fixed to a wall anymore... it folds, rolls, and travels with you

The future unfolds in LED displays

Large-format displays are evolving fast, driven by the growing demand for flexible, easy-to-deploy visual systems.

Traditional LED walls have long set the benchmark for brightness and quality, but their immobility has limited wider use. Foldable LED displays, a relatively new innovation in the professional AV landscape, are changing that by combining the image quality of large LED installations with true portability. In this feature, Muneer Ahmad, Vice President, AV Business, ViewSonic India, discusses the engineering, design intent, and practical implications of foldable display technology and what it means for the future of visual communication.

Mobility meets practicality

For years, large LED walls have been prized for their visual impact but hindered by logistical constraints. Setting up or relocating such installations typically required specialized manpower, significant downtime, and extensive recalibration. According to Muneer, these challenges became a consistent feedback point from users who needed flexible display setups for multiple environments.

"The primary insight came from corporate and event users who wanted large screens that could move with them," he said.

"Traditional fixed LEDs are powerful, but they don't offer mobility. That was the starting point."

The solution came in the form of a foldable design that merges mechanical strength with transport convenience. Each display uses a lightweight aluminum-magnesium frame for rigidity, while panels connect magnetically to simplify setup. A hinge system built into the structure carries both power and data signals internally, maintaining performance stability through repeated folding and unfolding.
