NVIDIA has deepened its position inside the chip-design ecosystem through a new $2 billion partnership with Synopsys, a move that folds advanced GPU acceleration and Al-driven automation into the software tools used by semiconductor companies to create next-generation processors.

The collaboration extends NVIDIA’s influence beyond training and inference markets and into the workflows that determine how chips are architected, verified and optimized before ever reaching a fabrication plant.

The agreement centers on integrating NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms with Synopsys’ EDA software, allowing chipmakers to run design, simulation and verification workloads on GPUs rather than relying exclusively on CPU clusters. Semiconductor design flows have historically required massive compute resources to handle circuit modeling, physical verification and sign-off procedures. By shifting key portions of those steps to GPU-accelerated pipelines, firms gain access to workflows that operate at higher throughput and lower latency, reducing bottlenecks that influence project timelines and development budgets.

Synopsys has been gradually incorporating Al-based capabilities into its EDA environment, and this partnership broadens those efforts by linking its toolchains with NVIDIA's design accelerators and its Al models tailored for engineering tasks. The companies have framed the collaboration as an expansion of their existing relationship, but the new investment scale signals a more comprehensive integration that touches multiple stages of chip-design infrastructure.

GPU ACCELERATION MOVES DEEPER INTO EDA WORKFLOWS

EDA tools handle some of the most compute-intensive processes used in modern electronics engineering, including logic simulation, electromagnetic extraction, timing analysis and layout verification. These workloads traditionally run on large CPU farms, often consuming extensive compute hours that stretch across multi-day cycles. By moving simulation and optimization steps onto NVIDIA GPUs, Synopsys is able to distribute workloads into parallel compute layers that shorten turnaround times.
