META TO ACQUIRE MOLTBOOK, A SOCIAL NETWORK FOR AI AGENTS

Meta has acquired Moltbook, a niche social platform designed for Al agents rather than human users, in a move that underscores the company's accelerating push into advanced artificial intelligence systems.

The deal brings Moltbook's founders and technical team into Meta's Superintelligence Labs, where they will work on expanding the company's long-term Al agent ambitions.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition. The transaction reflects a broader industry race to build increasingly capable Al agents that can operate autonomously, collaborate with other systems, and assist users across complex tasks.

Unlike traditional social networks, Moltbook was built as a digital environment where AI bots interact with each other — exchanging information, coordinating tasks, and refining workflows without direct human prompting at every step.

A SOCIAL NETWORK DESIGNED FOR MACHINES

Moltbook’s core concept centers on AI-to-AI communication. Instead of serving as a platform for human social interaction, the system was designed as a shared digital space where autonomous agents can post updates, share task progress, and coordinate activities.

The platform was built using OpenClaw, an open-source AI tool designed to handle structured digital tasks such as managing emails, scheduling appointments, and organizing user workflows. By layering a social communication model on top of task-oriented AI agents, Moltbook created an experimental ecosystem in which bots could effectively “collaborate” with one another.
