IPHONE EXPORTS FROM INDIA SOAR TO $1.3 BILLION IN EARLY 2025
AppleMagazine
|May 30, 2025
Picture a sprawling factory in southern India, where workers assemble iPhones that will soon land in the hands of customers across the United States and Europe.
-
This vision took shape earlier this year when Apple's iPhone exports from India reached $1.3 billion between January and April 2025, a 42% increase from the same period in 2024. This milestone underscores India's emergence as a critical hub in Apple's supply chain, fueling a manufacturing boom in the $1.5 trillion smartphone market.
Driven by the government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and Apple's strategic shift away from China, the export surge highlights India’s growing capacity to meet global demand.
With Foxconn and other partners leading production, India is reshaping its role in tech manufacturing, though U.S. tariffs and supply chain hurdles loom.
DRIVERS OF THE EXPORT BOOMApple's iPhone exports from India hit $1.3 billion from January to April 2025, up 42% from the $6.9 billion recorded for the same period in 2024.
This growth contributed to a fiscal year 2025 (April 2024 to March 2025) total of $17.4 billion in iPhone exports, nearly doubling the $9.8 billion from the prior year. March 2025 alone saw $2.3 billion in exports, a sharp rise from $1.3 billion in March 2024, driven by a rush to ship units before U.S. tariffs took effect in April. The United States was a major destination, with 3 million iPhones exported in April 2025, a 76% increase from the previous year, reflecting strong demand for models like the iPhone 16, launched in September 2024, alongside older models such as the iPhone 14 and 15.
