Regulators and securities experts have since warned that a deepfaked “policy statement” from a key official could trigger real market moves before verification catches up.

Recent incidents illustrate the playbook

• Multinational finance deepfake heist: In early 2024, a Hong Kong finance professional was duped by a realistic video call consisting of deepfaked colleagues, resulting in a $25 million transfer, an incident many CISOs now use in tabletop exercises.
• Public-figure investment pitches: Senior government officials and celebrities have had their likenesses used to endorse bogus financial schemes, demonstrating how easily investor trust can be manipulated at scale.
