Tottenham Hotspur v Milan 2010-11 Champions League, London, England

- Interview by Sean Cole

Sandro

Spurs' run to the knockout stages of the 2010-11 Champions League - after topping their group ahead of Internazionale was a historic achievement for the club, and their Brazilian midfielder was at the heart of one of its defining matches

When we were drawn against Milan, nobody expected us to go through. They had so many great players - Nesta, Thiago Silva, Seedorf, Robinho, Pato, Ibrahimovic and we knew we'd have to be better than perfect to beat those guys.

It was my first season in England and it was difficult for me. In Brazil, I'd been a star. I'd won the Copa Libertadores with Internacional and I was also playing for the national team. I was only young and I knew Tottenham had a lot of amazing players, especially in midfield, but I was still expecting to play. How crazy is that? For the first few months, I struggled, but I kept working hard to try to impress.
