McGoverne says playing for Chiefs is her priority

EXETER fly-half Olivia McGoverne has opted for club over country which will rule her out of contention for New Zealand’s World Cup bid in 2025.
The 27-year-old spent the last three seasons balancing her commitments in the PWR with Matatu in Super Rugby Aupiki, where she won the premier southern hemisphere title in 2023.
Her outstanding performances in recent weeks for the table topping Chiefs would likely cause Black Ferns selectors to take notice but with New Zealand’s World Cup preparations overlapping with Exeter’s title charge, McGoverne has likely ruled herself out.
She told The Rugby Paper: “Playing at the World Cup was a goal of mine but I can’t play for the Black Ferns whilst I’m over here. If I went back to New Zealand then I could but I’m focusing on playing well here.
