Fin Smith looks like a starting 10 to me, with Marcus on the bench

THERE is no justice in this world and, despite the magnificent efforts of the other 28 players on the pitch, it is invariably the 10s who dominate the headlines, get all the plaudits and glory, not to mention the big contracts.

Fin Smith looks like a starting 10 to me, with Marcus on the bench

They will argue they also cop all the stick, get an inordinate amount of the blame when the team lose, normally take all the pressure kicks and get more than their fair attention of aggro on the pitch from blokes twice their size. I see merit in both arguments.

It's been like this for much of the 150 years that Ireland have been playing England and was no different yesterday, in fact we are in a golden period of fly-half mania and overkill which is often the case when you come to the end of a great epoch or dynasty. Johnny Sex-ton with Ireland and the Owen Farrell/George Ford axis with England.

Everything is up for grabs. Is it going to be Sam Prendergast or Jack Crowley for Ireland while are England ever going to make their minds up between Marcus Smith and Fin Smith.

Coaches will tell you it's nice to be spoilt for choice but I'm not sure. Sometimes it's much easier when somebody is a clear front runner.

The modern complication to this old age question is that with replacements now virtually mandatory you normally get to see both contenders in the same game, a bit like the final trials of blessed memory.

That can confuse the issue but notwithstanding here is my brief bleacher report, free and gratis, for Simon Easterby and Steve Borthwick on all those involved.
