New era starts for Alfreton

NEW owner William Rush has stressed that 'sustainable growth' is key for Alfreton Town going forward.

It was announced on Tuesday that the 27-year-old American businessman had taken over the National League North outfit. Ironically, it brought to an end the 27-year reign of chairman Wayne Bradley, who will remain with the club in an advisory role and as a director.

American owners are all the rage in English football from the Premier League downwards these days and Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have taken Welsh side Wrexham all the way from the National League to the Championship with their funding and commercial prowess.

But rookie Rush doesn’t want anyone to get too carried away at the Derbyshire club, who finished 14th in Step 2’s northern section last term.

“I see Alfreton Town as a club with remarkable heritage, potential, and an incredibly passionate supporter base,” said the new Reds chairman.
