Dhruv Sitwala’s billiards career, which commenced at 21, has been marked by remarkable achievements. He recently captured his third Asian Championship title by defeating multiple world champion Pankaj Advani, a testament to his enduring skill and determination at the age of 51.
Sitwala’s career is decorated with a dozen international medals, including three golds, and nine national medals, with one gold. His victory over Advani, a nine-time Asian champion and frequent tournament roommate, was particularly notable. Reflecting on his win, Sitwala shared, “Pankaj is a good friend and often my roommate at tournaments. He’s known for his comebacks, but I had strategies in place and focused on showcasing my skills. Fortunately, my plans worked, and I overcame his challenge in the finals.” Inspiration from friends
Dhruv Sitwala’s journey in billiards began with a casual visit to Juhu Club with friends, where he developed a keen interest in the game. He started training under Sir Wilson Jones, a former world champion, at Malabar Hill Club. Within months, he began winning local tournaments, boosting his confidence.
