Jeddaal - Ed Walker's improving 3yo was a mighty impressive winner at Chester in June and looks set to continue that progression on his next start. He was given a fine ride from young claimer, Ashley Lewis that day, making his move earlier than his rivals which ensured a prime position entering the straight. On paper it looked a hot contest for the grade and his earlier form suggests he is capable of mixing it with better handicappers. The handicapper only gave him 5lb for that success which I thought was lenient given the manner in which he did it. I'm sure connections will be eyeing up more handicap glory in the coming weeks.

Vintage Clarets - He ran the same day at Chester as Jeddaal but didn't enjoy any of that horse's fortune. A hold up performer, his supporters knew they would have been playing for a bit of luck when backing him, especially around Chester. He stormed up the straight in usual Vintage Clarets fashion but it wasn't quite enough in order to reel in the winner, Tricky Tel. This run backed up his performance in the Epsom Dash a week previous however and confirmed that he is now back on top form after a spell in the doldrums. Connections will be keen to capitalise on that hot form sooner rather than later before the handicapper nudges him up too much for finishing in the places.
