Andy Ayres picks up the pieces when the track action is cooling down

KEMPTON August 20 (standard to slow) 1m3f219y novice (Class 4)Impressive winner
FINALISE (William Haggas) must be the tallest filly in training. She got seasick round the hairpin bends at Windsor in July but was a different kettle of fish on this track and won pulling a cart. A mark of 84 looks stiff enough, but she's got any amount of scope and could ruffle some fancy feathers this autumn.
KEMPTON August 27 (standard to slow) 1m two-year-old novice (Class 5)Race that will produce winners
NATIONAL HISTORY (Charlie Appleby) cost a million euros at the breeze-ups and looked the business. He showed bags of toe before being nailed close home and will be hard to catch next time.
UNITER (Andrew Balding) wasn't wound-up for this debut and ran a belter to finish third behind a couple of sharper sorts. His dam was a slow burner, and this big boy will make a useful 3yo.
NEWBURY August 28 (good) 6f two-year-old fillies' maiden (Class 4)Decent form
SPLISH SPLASH (Eve Johnson-Houghton) has got a prep-school pedigree - her dam was a Group 1 winner - but still looks a tad weak. She shaped well in third here, ran a belter at Doncaster a fortnight later and has a bright future.
6f two-year-old fillies' maiden (Class 4)Fair contest
SUNDAY GIRL (Ed Walker) looked raw as sushi and did well to finish third under kid glove handling by Kieran Shoemark. She's miles better than the bare form indicates and is one to follow.
SANDOWN August 30 (soft) 1m fillies and mares' Group 3 (Class 1)Promising winner
LADY OF SPAIN (Roger Varian) rocked-up in great nick after an eight-month break and produced a personal best to see off a decent field. She's unbeaten in five starts, appears to handle any ground and must have an each-way squeak in the Sun Chariot at Newmarket on October 4.
