HOW WE TESTED

Each pair of socks was worn over several weeks of mixed riding and also put through some controlled 'lab-style' assessments. I made the most of a few weeks of wet weather to see how well they performed in real-world use in heavy rain, deep puddles and mud, wearing them with summer shoes to give them the toughest time possible. To help create consistent conditions, I also performed a 10-minute ankle-deep submersion test in cold water. While out on the trails, I assessed how well each pair managed warmth, and whether the internal layers caused clamminess or discomfort on longer rides. Fit and compression were judged by how securely they stayed in place without bunching inside tight riding shoes or winter boots. I also examined cuff height and flexibility to see how well they paired with waterproof trousers. The goal was simple - to identify which socks truly balance waterproof protection, warmth and fit for cool, wet-weather British riding conditions.
