1 The chipping yips are a hugely mental part of the game, but they result from a technical fault that has crept in which has led to a fear of the ground. The golfer gets afraid of what the club is going to do at impact and that results in involuntary movements, usually with the knees and hands. However, when golfers improve their technique and start making the odd good contact, it rewires the mind so you know you can actually do it.
