After 2023-24 was dominated by financial powerhouses, League Two had a more level playing field last season - and it showed.

Bradford's 78 points was the joint-lowest total of any EFL team to win automatic promotion since 1997-98 - not that 23,000 fans at Valley Parade cared, as Antoni Sarcevic’s deflected 96th-minute winner sent them up in May.

So, what are we in for this year? Another promotion race of jeopardy, drama and teams tripping over one another near the finish line, or a return to the wealthiest pulling away?

It depends on the scale of improvement from MK Dons and Gillingham after both fell miles off the pace. The big spenders - MK in particular - have multiple promotion-winning managers in Paul Warne and Gareth Ainsworth, who each boast a flawless CV below the Championship.
