As Tadej Pogačar turned the screw in the Alps, there was still plenty of intrigue in the final week

Stage 16
Tuesday 22 July
Montpellier > Mont Ventoux
Winner: V. Paret-Peintre
Yellow jersey: T. Pogačar
Returning to the Tour de France for the first time since 2021, the Géant de Provence stood at the end of a long day across southern France. A large breakaway dominated the day, which included the three men who looked like winning at points on the bald mountain: Enric Mas (Movistar), Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) and Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal-Quick Step). In a final sprint between the pair, Paret-Peintre triumphed ahead of Healy. They were almost caught by Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) in yellow, who gained a handful of seconds on Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike).
