An aero road helmet that delivers exceptional ventilation when you put the hammer down
The Kask Nirvana made its first appearance around 12 months ago on the heads of the Ineos Grenadiers at the 2024 Tour Down Under. It was one of several aero helmets that suggested the next significant gains in helmet design might come from covering a rider's ears - an aesthetic that, initially, wasn't entirely to my taste.
Six months later, Kask officially launched the helmet, claiming a 10-watt improvement over its predecessor, the Utopia Y, alongside better cooling and a relatively light weight of 270 grams. But has it delivered? After months of testing, I feel well-placed to provide an answer.
Let's begin with the helmet's design and explore Kask's claims in more detail. Aesthetically, the Nirvana maintains Kask's signature design language, which is no bad thing. You can see clear similarities to the Utopia Y, but the vent count has been reduced from six to four. This, combined with the lower-swept profile around the ears, makes Kask's claim of a 19% increase in ventilation seem ambitious - so how have they achieved it?
