Mathieu van der Poel and Fem van Empel win Worlds yet again

Dutch dominate in Liévin

It was a weekend of oranje dominance at the Cyclo-cross World Championships yet again last weekend, as the Dutch tricolour was raised above the podium in both the elite men's and women's races. Mathieu van der Poel won his seventh CX world title, joining Erik De Vlaeminck's historic record, and his third in a row in the men's race, while Fem van Empel won her third in a row in the women's.

The women's race was also an all-Dutch podium, with Van Empel triumphing after a tough battle with Lucinda Brand which was only decided on the final lap, with Puck Pieterse in third. In the men's equivalent, Van der Poel powered away on the opening lap while his great rival Wout van Aert was stuck behind a crash and traffic, after starting from the fourth row.
