Bjergfelt smashes para-cycling Hour record

Forty-six-year-old Brit becomes first para-cyclist to ride over 50km

Will Bjergfelt took the UCI Hour record last week to become the first para-cyclist in history to go beyond the 50km mark.

The 46-year-old rode a distance of 51.471km on the velodrome in Konya, Turkey, beating an 11-year-old record in the C5 para-cycling classification by almost four kilometres. His ride put him in the top-20 all-time efforts, which include elite riders such as Bradley Wiggins, Dan Bigham and the outright record holder Filippo Ganna.

"It's amazing. It's not quite sunk in yet, really," he said afterwards. "I've wanted this for a really long time."
