Elite Rivo smart trainer

£449.99 Wonderfully compact, but it falls short in several key areas
The successor to Elite's highly rated Suito, the Rivo offers more resistance and new connectivity options, while having a similar spec sheet.
Looks-wise, it reminds us of the brand's flagship smart trainer, the Justo 2.
Highs and lows
With its £449.99 price tag, the Rivo is positioned to compete with mid-range direct-drive smart trainers such as the Wahoo Kickr Core 2 and JetBlack Victory. While its specs are competitive in some areas, they're somewhat of a mixed bag in others, compared to its key competitors.
The 2,100W max power and 18% maximum simulated gradient are both class-leading. However, the claimed power accuracy of ±2.5% is 0.5% wider than that of the Kickr Core 2 and Victory. The Rivo's 3.5kg flywheel is also a lot smaller than the 5.4kg and 4.7kg equivalents found on those models.
In terms of connectivity, you get Bluetooth and WiFi. There's no ANT+ here, but that's not unusual in modern indoor cycling. As with many new 'Zwift Ready' smart trainers, the Rivo is available with the option of a preinstalled Zwift Cog, along with Zwift's Click v2 controllers bundled in the box. The Zwift Cog is a single-speed adaptor that enables “almost any” eight- to 12-speed bike to be mounted to a smart trainer without the need for a drivetrain- or groupset-specific cassette. You then use the controllers to shift ‘virtually’ by modifying the trainer's resistance to your pedalling. Nifty.
