Welshman raises prospect of retirement at the end of 2023

Savour it, you may well not see Geraint Thomas on a Tour de France podium again. The Welshman, who won this race in 2018, was in a reflective mood after he sealed his podium spot at the weekend.

“Next year might be my last year anyway,” he said when asked how Ineos Grenadiers could go about beating the generational talents of Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar. “So I don’t really care. It’s tough, those two are just unbelievable.

“I’ve got a contract to the end of next year. I might stop, I might do one more.”
