BOBBY COX HELPED TURN BRAVES INTO WINNERS

Cox helped the expansion Blue Jays ascend to prominence, while in Atlanta he oversaw two decades of dominance in the 1990s and 2000s.

He also served as Braves GM from 1986 to 1990, a period that saw Atlanta draft Chipper Jones, Steve Avery, Ryan Klesko and Mark Wohlers and complete the masterful 1987 trade for John Smoltz.

Cox grew up in Selma, Calif., and signed with the Dodgers as a third baseman out of high school. He was 19 years old in 1960, when he made his pro debut, and played in the minors for the Dodgers and Braves before being traded to the Yankees, where he made his MLB debut at age 27 in 1968.
