Scientists spot birth of a new solar system

Space scientists have spotted the birth of a solar system for the first time.

Stars, like our Sun, form when vast clouds of dust and gas in space collapse inwards on themselves. As the star forms it begins to spin and some of the dust forms a giant flat ring orbiting the star. Gradually, it clumps together to create asteroids, moons and eventually planets.
