Climate-crazy playbook
Down To Earth
|February 01, 2025
Just hours after his second (and final) term began on January 20, US President Donald Trump unleashed 46 presidential actions. Several of these are centred on the US' climate commitments, energy transition, migration and trade policies, and are likely to have negative global implications
-
Climate commitments: Trump declared the withdrawal "Trump's call for of the US from the 2015 global Paris agreement to limit global greenhouse gas emissions, and revoked the US International Climate Finance Plan. The US would also withdraw from other international climate pacts and financial commitments under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Out of World Health Organization (WHO): Trump withdrew the US from WHO citing reasons like the global health agency's failure to handle the novel coronavirus pandemic.
According to media platform Devex, the US' withdrawal could cost WHO $130 million in annual funds. It will also hinder global public health response.
