How do you follow the decade-long marathon that was Mario Kart 8 and its generation-hopping Deluxe edition?

At first we wonder if World might have opted to take an approach similar to that of the hardware it's launching alongside – to be a more handsome, more fully featured iteration on what came before. There are inventive touches among the new tracks and items, certainly: eight-wheeler lorries that can be driven inside and controlled; Kamek-launched spells that can transmogrify your rivals or switch their positions; a golden shell that drops speed-boosting coins in its wake. But is this essentially just a case of slapping yet another 'Deluxe' onto the end of a predecessor's title?
