Ghatak India's Silent Stealth Spear

April 2026

India's air doctrine is shifting from risky manned missions to total stealth dominance.

Ghatak India's Silent Stealth Spear

The Ghatak squadrons give the IAF a sophisticated "First Wave" weapon. Designed to dismantle enemy defences before a pilot even takes off, this indigenous powerhouse represents a massive leap into the future of autonomous warfare. As development scales for the IAF, India joins an elite global club capable of building its own autonomous stealth bombers.

Strategic Approval: The Defence Acquisition Council has approved the procurement of four squadrons of Ghatak Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft for the IAF. This marks the shift of the project from a technology testbed to a vital combat asset. The move incorporates heavy, autonomous strike platforms into India's primary aerial strategy to counter regional threats and maintain a technological edge.

The "First Wave" Role: Ghatak is a "First Wave" platform designed to initiate initial aerial assaults. It breaks through enemy lines to turn off air defence systems and suppress radar. This creates "safe zones" for manned fighters such as the Su-30MKI or Rafale, greatly enhancing mission success rates by neutralising surface-to-air threats early.

Stealth Geometry: The "flying wing" design omits a vertical tail, significantly reducing the drone's radar signature. This specialised shape allows the Ghatak to bypass advanced radar detection systems unnoticed. It marks a major indigenous engineering achievement, supporting covert operations in highly protected, hostile territories where traditional aircraft are easily detected.
