For the past couple of years, we've seen new camera bodies tiptoe forward with higher frame rates, marginally better autofocusing and incremental resolution bumps without ever astounding us. But off the back of a strong 2024 for the industry, suddenly we have fixed-lens medium-format (hello, Fujifilm GFX100 RF), and a new micro-compact that dares you to reconnect with instinctive framing (the X half with its portrait-only sensibility). Panasonic has finally updated its seven-year-old flagship range with some truly astonishing camera models; the S1R II and S1 II. OM is finding its stride, reviving the best of the Olympus brand, and Sigma has made something beautifully foolish.
