Optimise your phone shots in Photoshop

Smartphones are our most useful cameras, so let's enhance our shots, says James Abbott

There's no getting away from the fact that mobile phones are capable of capturing excellent photos. Sure, they're not as good as those shot with a DSLR or mirrorless camera, but they are the camera that we have with us pretty much all of the time. Add to this the possibility of capturing images in raw format, with the ability to process on our devices using Lightroom Mobile and Snapseed for example, and their usefulness is further increased.

This in itself leads to some quite frankly impressive results, but there's still no reason why you shouldn't download phone shots to your computer for further enhancements. Photoshop is the ideal software for enhancements and techniques that are either tricky to apply when using a small screen, or when the functionality to do so simply isn't available.

The four techniques we'll cover are subtle, but they undoubtedly work a little magic on your phone shots.
