Understanding White Balance in Photography
Asian Photography
|September 2022
Have you ever wondered why your subjects appear yellow when photographed indoors? Or why does your camera's flash make things seem blue? Understanding the notion of white balance and how it works is critical in digital photography since wrongly adjusting it can spoil a shot by adding all kinds of unwanted colour casts and making skin tones seem extremely unnatural. In this post, we will go through the fundamentals of white balance and colour temperature, which can be difficult for novices to grasp.
Why is it critical to have control over your camera’s white balance settings?
When the white balance of a digital image is right, white will appear white and all colours in the shot will seem as they do normally. Your images will have a strange colour hue if the white balance is not properly calibrated. A white item will not appear to be white.
Did you know that light has the ability to be coloured? Natural daylight, like LED, neon, and fluorescent lights, may have a distinct colour cast. This can have a significant impact on the outcome of your photographs. A camera’s white balance filters the light so that the colours appear correct.
Before we go into the specifics of white balance, it’s useful to understand colour balance in photography. This is the process of adjusting the strength of various colours in a picture (typically the primary colours of Blue, Green, and Red). The goal of colour adjustment is to ensure that they render accurately.
The overall technique is known as grey balance. Colour balancing alters the colour mixing of an image and is used for colour correction. Photographic image data from your camera’s digital sensor is digitally changed from its original values or level to the new values required to recreate the image correctly. Because the original image from the camera sensor does not match the human eye, the camera must adjust for those variances.

The Rise of Street Couture Photography
Street couture photography has taken over fashion culture in a way few trends have before. It blends high fashion with real world grit, turning sidewalks into runways and everyday people into style subjects. This shift did not happen overnight. It grew from a mix of social media influence, shifting brand priorities, and a global appetite for authenticity. What used to be a niche style is now a major force shaping how fashion is captured, consumed, and imagined.
