In this candid interview, Swara Rane shares insights into the specific safety precautions necessary for working with newborns and infants, the distinct setup requirements for her genre of photography compared to conventional adult portraits, and the humorous anecdotes that come with the territory.

FRAMING NEW BEGINNINGS

What ignited your passion for photography, and what attracted you to your specific style or genre?

I come from a very artistic family where my mother and maternal grandparents were artists by profession. My exposure to photography was through my father, who was really passionate about photography. Right after my 10th grade exams when kids have plenty of free time, I enrolled myself in a photography class and continued to learn during the holidays. I did my undergrad in commercial art from JJ Institute of Applied Arts and my serious exposure to photography started right there. I had no plans on getting into photography as a profession ever, and it all happened by chance and I’m very glad for it! I had my daughter when I was working in the US, where newborn photography was well established. About a month after having my daughter, I reached out to several photographers in Chicago for a newborn session and I was turned down by all! I had apparently missed the boat, since she was well over the ideal age for a newborn session (15 days). I took my camera out and with my family’s help, I did my first ever newborn session at my home, with just 1 blanket bought from Target and 2 cheesecloths bought from Etsy (all put together was $30!). There has been no looking back ever since!

Do photography sessions involving newborns, infants, and expectant mothers necessitate unique safety precautions? If so, what are these measures?

The Rise of Street Couture Photography

Street couture photography has taken over fashion culture in a way few trends have before. It blends high fashion with real world grit, turning sidewalks into runways and everyday people into style subjects. This shift did not happen overnight. It grew from a mix of social media influence, shifting brand priorities, and a global appetite for authenticity. What used to be a niche style is now a major force shaping how fashion is captured, consumed, and imagined.
