There's no drama llama for student volunteers

Llamas and alpacas are just some of the animals learners have been getting to know while volunteering at city charity hub CATCH.

The learners have become a vital part of the team at Community Action to Create Hope (CATCH), which was set up in Harehills to provide young people from all backgrounds with a purposeful and safe space to develop skills and be inspired.

Alongside their studies, learners from the Public Services Department at Quarry Hill carry out daily farm duties and animal care as well as getting involved in social action projects to improve the facilities, which includes the animal farm, a cafe, a cinema and venue hire.

Learners can get involved in a wide range of activities, from mucking in with farm maintenance helping to look after goats, chickens, rabbits, alpacas and llamas to refereeing youth session table tennis matches, making coffees in the Catch-Up Café and helping to prepare for corporate events.
