The Daily Mirror report that Liverpool are readying themselves for a "battle" with Real Madrid to secure the services of AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit, a 19-year-old who has lit up Dutch football in recent months.

Liverpool are apparently preparing to "enter a bidding war" for the talented teenager, with Real "keen" to sign him - with AZ supposedly demanding a hefty £52million for his sale.
