Pedal power: Innovative team look to take city off grid with Roadblock

The cycling-powered machine generates 100 per cent renewable energy through pedalling and is designed to enable local events to operate off-grid.

After its official launch on July 26, it is hoped the Armley Roadblock will put power in the hands (or rather feet) of the people.

Designed by community interest company Roadblock Sound System, the original idea began in 2019 when three friends were brainstorming what they could bring to a climate change protest.

Over the course of a fortnight, they created the first Roadblock machine - a design that is still thriving six years later.
