Industries decimated

Yorkshire Evening Post

January 15, 2026

Mr Brown in responding to my missive decrying attempts to rejoin the EU says in his first point that a key gain would be stronger trade and economic growth - meaning more jobs.

Has he forgotten that the majority of trade and economic growth comes from manufacturing industries? I would remind him that those industries have been decimated, engineering, textile, leather etc and have mostly disappeared to EU countries during our membership.

More jobs in which industry does he envisage? The non GDP producing employment like the NHS and other service industries.
