How planting trees can help to save the planet
Yorkshire Evening Post
|May 03, 2025
One of the easiest ways we can help the environment and help nature is by planting trees in our communities.
-
The UK has less tree cover than almost anywhere else in Europe, according to government figures, and wildfires caused by climate change, urban sprawl and deforestation are aggravating the problem.
The government recently announced a Tree Planting Taskforce to oversee the planting of millions of trees across the UK, and it earmarked £400 million in its last Budget for tree planting and peat restoration.
Woodlands are the heart of communities all over the UK. They’re essential to supporting wellbeing and improving quality of life, as well as being home to some of our most important species.
But our appreciation for trees and everything they give us seems to be lacking at times.
