Digital Classrooms: Bridging the Urban-Rural Education Divide
YUGMARG NEWSPAPER
|July 10, 2025
The advent of digital classrooms has revolutionized learning, especially in remote and underserved areas. What began as a response to the COVID-19 crisis has now become a permanent fixture of India's educational framework. Smart classrooms equipped with digital boards, e-content, and internet access are narrowing the urban-rural divide like never before. According to data from the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), over 2.3 lakh government schools now have some form of digital infrastructure, a sharp rise from under 60,000 before 2020. In Punjab alone, the Smart School Policy has enabled the digitization of more than 19,000 classrooms across 6,000 government schools, enhancing both teaching quality and student engagement.

Studies have shown that visual and interactive learning increases retention by up to 70%, and digital aids help struggling students grasp concepts at their own pace. Recorded lessons, subtitles in regional languages, and quizzes offer a customized learning experience that traditional classrooms often lack.
