Part of the county was placed under a rare red weather warning last Thursday evening as “dangerous, stormy” winds battered the region.

One man is confirmed to have died in the storm when a tree fell onto a caravan at Helston during the storm on January 8.

The storm toppled hundreds of trees across the region, hitting properties, pulling down power lines and also damaging water mains in Helston, according to South West Water.

Hundreds of power cuts were reported in Cornwall, both during the storm and after. At its peak, National Grid said Goretti cut off 121,000 properties.

Dozens of schools closed or altered their hours because of access or utility problems.
