Open Spaces Society backs residents’ call for town green
Western Morning News
|July 29, 2025
THE UK's longest-running conservation body has called for a patch of green space saved from the bulldozers to become a “town green” and protected forever.
-
The Open Spaces Society (OSS) wants the land at Wilmot Gardens, in Plymouth’s Crownhill to be secured for the community.
‘The OSS wants the land registered under the an act of parliament which would mean local people would have the right of recreational use of the land in perpetuity. It would mean the 0.3-acre plot would not be at the centre of another planning battle after Plymouth City Council last week refused permission for five houses to be built on the plot.
Jubilant residents last week said they would like to attain town green status for the land, following their victorious campaign.
