Government set to phase out animal testing in UK
Western Morning News
|November 14, 2025
ANIMAL testing in science is set to be phased out faster, under a new plan unveiled this week.
Science Minister Lord Vallance announced a road map to back researchers to seize ways to replace tests still used for products like vaccines and pesticides.
The plan is to move to methods like:
Tiny devices that mimic how human organs work;
Greater use of AI;
3D bioprinted tissues to create realistic human tissue samples.
The Government's plan sets out commitments for the coming years, opening opportunities for the UK to lead on finding alternatives to animal tests. This includes an end to regulatory animal testing on treatments to skin and eye irritation by the end of 2026.
